What Are Numismatic Coins?

Coin collecting can be a very risky business if the collector does not research and make sure that the market he is buying from is reputable.

In reading about numismatic coins I have found articles that contradict each other. Some say that there are really not any numismatic coins, while others say that there are, and their value is based on their rarity rather than their bullion or pure gold content.

I guess the value of the coin like any other collectible is based on the desire of others to possess it. The beauty of some coins may be all it takes to place value on them.
