Giving for the Sake of Giving

Just the thought of being on the receiving end of another person’s gift of giving without conditions or expectations is both flattering and fulfilling. Behind the gift of giving one’s talents to another loved one, absent of receiving anything in return, is the greatest gift in life. A person, or group of people, may perceive a future need and focus energy and resources towards fulfilling that need without anything in return. Actions like these should not be ridiculed or viewed with distrust. Instead, when someone reaches out and gives to another of a talent, or just a listening ear without expecting something in return, the benefactor should become a better person for receiving that special gift.

Giving something of one’s self back to the community comes from the heart. A person receives the tools for life, such as an education that allows him or her to fulfill a career and care for family members out of love. Later in life it is time to give something back to the community. Giving for the sake of giving is synonymous with donating and some people donate time and even vital organs so that someone else might live. Nothing is expected in return for becoming a donor; no payment or expectation that the receiver will somehow feel obligated to return the favor.

Giving for the sake of giving allows a person to say something about him or her through deeds and acts of caring. It makes a statement to society about being human and just wanting to feel good about one’s self. Through giving a person might want to say “thank you” and “I appreciate what you have done either for me or someone else.”
