Starting a Charitable Organization

Charitable Organization is a voluntary organization setup for charitable, social, philanthropic and other services. It is an excellent service to the poor and needy population in a society. Selfless service should be the motto behind starting a charitable organization. Do not mistake it for a business but consider it as a service to the community. All you need to start such an organization is dedication, patience, and the ability to follow directions.

Charitable Organizations should be a registered non profit organization. It has to be filed as a "tax-exempt" organization with the IRS to be exempted from federal taxes. These organizations can be a corporation, trust, or unincorporated association. And the purpose of their existence has to be complete charity. These organizations should be operating for preserving the benefit of public interest. There should be a mission statement that describes the overall purpose of the organization. It is always better to get legal advice and guidance before starting such an organization. Appropriate bylaws, licenses, bank accounts, insurance and board members should be in place while starting a charitable organization. Also necessary care has to be taken for fulfilling the federal, state and local requirements.

Charitable Organization is mainly organized for relief of the poor and underprivileged. They also work towards religious advancements, literacy, science or educational advancement, public safety, preserving public buildings, antique monuments and other work, work towards eradication on apartheid, preserving the interest of physically challenged and old age community and safeguarding the animal life.
