If you made millions of dollars a year, would you give back to worthy charities that needed donations? Many celebrities today are donating a portion of their earnings to the charities of their choice. At the top of the list is Oprah Winfrey's 2006 donation to many charities, including the Angel Network, which she is involved with. Reportedly, Winfrey gave 58 million dollars of her own hard earned money. She was also able to open a school for young African American females so that they can have the opportunity to go to school and receive an education.

Another celebrity who has donated millions to charities is Paul Newman. He has donated an estimate of 250 million dollars to different organizations. The two most important to Newman are the Newman's Own Foundation and Hole in the Wall Camps. Hole in the Wall Camp allows terminally ill children with the chance to go to camp for free. When speaking of charitable celebrities, no one can forget Sir Elton John, who over the years has raised more than 125 million dollars for the organization he created, the Elton John AIDS Foundation. After his death, Geoffrey Beene left an estimated 44 million dollars to his charity. The charity Beene belonged to was the Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who made a charity foundation together, donated an estimated 8.4 million dollars. This charity was to help rebuild houses that were damaged by the flood waters. Herb Alpert donated 13 million dollars to various charities of his choice. Mel Gibson gave a reported 9.9 million dollars to the needy, whereas Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong and Eric Lindros reportedly donated 5 million dollars a piece to their charity of their choice. Many of today's top celebrities like to give back, whether it is to their community or charities that need all the support they can get.
