Church Volunteering
There are many benefits of volunteering.
Whether for the inner satisfaction it brings or to further develop a
skill in your self, volunteering can be a great experience. There are many ways to get involved in volunteering in your community. One of these methods is to volunteer at a church.
Church volunteering covers a very wide range of activities.
Often, in addition to a regular maintenance team, a church will have
regularly scheduled work days. These work days are a time, usually on a
Saturday, when people can come and do extra projects. Although trees
may get trimmed on a weekly basis, sometimes heavier work may need to be done that cannot be handled by the regular crew. Perhaps trees need to be removed completely and cut up. The importance of volunteering can be easily seen as a crew makes short work of large projects.
Often church volunteering involves working somewhere besides the actual church. A church may sponsor a trip to a disaster area,
such as the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. In cases like this, the
volunteer work is a great relief for local victims. Even though the
work is done on a volunteer basis, it is often helpful to have
agreements that the participants sign. Even if there is little risk of
lawsuit, having the proper precautions in place is wise.
Churches
often volunteer at camps for youth. At camps, volunteers will be doing
everything from teaching kids to building cabins. Large camps often
have a full-time paid staff who
coordinates the main events. Volunteers deal with details. Often the
full time staff will include professional rock climbing instructors and
lifeguards. While at the camp, volunteers will have the opportunity to become trained in valuable skills such as lifeguarding, so as to better serve the camp.
Whatever your particular interest or skill, church volunteering is a great way to get involved.
